1st SkillsUSA Biotechnology Competition

Friends of Vocational Technical & Agricultural Education,

Hope you have enjoyed a great week as weekend is about to arrive. I am taking the liberty of sharing some positive news which I received as I opened my email on this Friday morning. One of our outstanding teachers sharing with me great news for Massachusetts Chapter 74 vocational technical & agricultural education.

My email to Susan Piraino at Blackstone Valley Tech, a Biotechnology Instructor, as well as Susan’s special news she shared with me are copied below.

Another example of the incredible professionals we have in our schools! As we all know, none of this would be possible without the leadership, dedication, and consistent enthusiasm of our Massachusetts SkillsUSA Executive Director Karen Ward!!

David

Susan,

What a way to end the week! Such terrific news and what a wonderful effort on your part to place our Massachusetts Chapter 74 Biotechnology programs and most importantly our students on the national stage!! Cannot tell you how excited this has made me and how much we appreciate your efforts. Please accept our appreciation for making this happen. I know that I speak for the entire MAVA Board of Directors, when I thank you for your perseverance, time, and energy in the terrific accomplishment.

If there is anything we can do in facilitating the laboratory skills competition, we are here to support you.

Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend.

Hi David,

SUCCESS!! I am delighted to share the exciting news that the proposal I submitted to SkillsUSA last July for a first-ever SkillsUSA competition tailored to biotechnology students, the Biotechnology Knowledge Bowl, was approved and will launch as a national demo this spring!

A second proposal for a Biotechnology laboratory skills competition is in the early planning stages.

Go Biotech!

Sue
