Bristol-Plymouth Tech DECA Chapter Earns THRIVE Level Recognition
February 2023 Alia Spring
Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School’s DECA chapter was awarded Thrive Level recognition for their participation in DECA’s 2022-2023 Chapter Campaign program. Awards were announced on decadirect.org.
Each fall, DECA offers four campaigns for chapters to complete as part of their program of leadership for the year. These campaigns are designed to grow membership engagement and build lasting partnerships within the school and local community. To receive THRIVE-level recognition, chapters had to complete two out of three chapter campaigns including the community service campaign, ethical leadership campaign and promotional campaign. Alternatively, the chapter could have participated in the membership campaign, which challenged the chapter to attain two of three goals: recruit 20 professional members, recruit 20 alumni members, or increase student membership by 20 more members from the previous school year.
Bristol-Plymouth DECA participated in a community service and membership campaign.
Students were able to grow the chapter by 21 alumni members and 28 student members through the membership campaign. The membership campaign involved recruitment at freshmen orientation, as well as a beginning-of-the-year pizza party which doubled as an informational meeting. Members also were recruited at a pumpkin carving event in October and during football games in fall 2022. Through the community services campaign, students participated in a variety of activities, including hosting fundraisers for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, veterans, and the Friends of Disabled Adults & Children and more. Students also collected toiletries and cold weather items for those in need.
The Bristol-Plymouth DECA members who contributed to the THRIVE recognition were Emma Thompson, Sophia Pinarreta, Rylie Hamblin, Alexis Frye, Madison Gilbert, Henry Bringle and Caitlin Nixon with the assistance of their advisors, Scott Cowell, and Jennifer Karamanian.
As part of DECA’s recognition, the Bristol-Plymouth DECA chapter will receive a pennant, flag and plaque, and is eligible to register up to six DECA members to participate in the Thrive Academy at this year’s International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida.
“The hard work and dedication that our officers and members have shown has been an inspiration and we could not be prouder of their efforts, which have paid off tremendously,” said Chapter Advisor Jennifer Karamanian. “I would like to congratulate them on achieving this distinguished recognition.”
