Worcester Tech graduate Stephen Nedoroscik earns spot on U.S. Men’s Olympic team

Stephen Nedoroscik’s performances this week on the pommel horse during the gymnastics team trials for the U.S. Men’s Olympic team in Minneapolis, as well as his performances earlier this year at the U.S. Championships were strong enough to earn the Worcester Tech graduate a spot on the team heading to Paris this summer.

Nedoroscik, a 2016 Worcester Tech graduate that later starred at Penn State, will be joined by Frederick Richard, who finished with an all-around score of 170.500, Asher Hong, Paul Juda, and Brody Malone. Khoi Young and Shane Wiskus are set to serve as traveling replacement athletes.

Nedoroscik didn’t finish among the top five performers in the all-around, but his prowess on the pommel horse will shore up a discipline that has been lacking for the United States.

Malone came in second at team trails, posting an overall score of 170.300. Wiskus landed in third at 169.650, while Juda (168.850) and Hong (167.650) rounded out the top five.

Everyone aside from Malone is a first-time Olympian. When he went to the 2020 Tokyo Games ‒ held in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic ‒ Malone came up just short of a bronze medal, placing fourth in the horizontal bar.

We have a chance to win a medal, and that’s what we’re going to do," Malone said.
