We are pleased to share some of the events undertaken by the staff & students at Southeastern Regional Voc-Tech. Their efforts were highlighted in the MASSHIRE Greater Brockton newsletter and shared with us by Principal Leslie Weckesser. Southeastern in partnership with MassHire’s Connecting Activities Program hosted a STEM panel for Massachusetts STEM Week entitled, “STEM in the Music Industry”.

The panel boasted three Music Industry Professionals from the New England area with over more than 20 years of experience within the industry. This event allowed students to learn from these well experienced professionals and see what a career in the Music Industry is like and learn about the variety of opportunities available to someone interested in a career in Music.

STEM Week Event: STEM in the Music Industry Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School Performance Arts Center Tuesday, October 17th, 2023 9am-11am.

Event Overview: Southeastern and Pop production.

With a wealth of knowledge and expertise, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with countless artists from the vibrant music scenes of New England, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. His versatility and adaptability enable him to work across various genres and styles, but it is his passion for Hip Hop, RnB, and Pop that truly sets him apart.

Nelly’s expertise extends beyond his technical proficiency. He possesses a deep understanding of the ever-evolving music production landscape, staying up to date with the latest advancements in software and technology. Proficient in using industry-standard software such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and his personal DAW of choice Studio One. This enables him to push creative boundaries and experiment with innovative soundscapes, ensuring that each project he undertakes is fresh and unique.

In addition to his skills as a producer/engineer, he’s also known for his professionalism and ability to create a comfortable and collaborative working environment. He understands the importance of fostering strong relationships with artists, and his genuine passion for music shines through every interaction. Dr. Lee Whitmore is a music, audio, creative digital media, and education thought leader. He’s the Vice President for business-to-business (B2B), including education, pro, post, and government, at Focusrite Group, which includes Focusrite, Novation and Ampify Music, Sequential and Oberheim, ADAM Audio, Martin Audio, Optimal Audio, Linea Research, and Sonnox. With a career that spans three decades, his professional assignments have included leadership positions at music industry companies Avid, Sibelius, and Korg USA, as well as the GRAMMY Music Education Coalition and Berklee College of Music. He has a doctorate from Columbia University Teachers College in music education and technology. Because music has dramatically affected his personal life and career, Lee is a vocal advocate for access to music and related arts for all young people. Lee is an author, educator, public speaker, and industry and education executive. His recent writing includes pieces for the Inter-American Development Bank, the Hechinger Report, and the Washington Post. Active in service to music, community, and education, Lee is a Beats By Girlz board member, an executive board member of The MIDI Association, also serving as its treasurer and leading its MIDI in Music Education (MiME) Special Interest Group.

Malik Williams is an Emmy nominated and platinum selling composer, producer, engineer and educator whose work has appeared in records, films, television shows, and in national advertising campaigns. His successful work as a composer, multi[1]instrumentalist and vocalist, and his ability to work in many different genres, has made Mr. Williams an in-demand producer. Mr. Williams owns and operates Reel Sync Music and Liptunes Music, production and music licensing companies based in Boston, Massachusetts. He’s also a voting GRAMMY member, Co[1]chair of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Boston Section and serves on community, educational and DEI committees, including The Secret Society of Black Creatives, The Loop Lab, Project STEP, Governor Healey’s Arts & Culture Policy Advisory Committee (2022) and The City of Boston Office of Arts & Culture advisor.
