Grade 11 Students Venture to New Jersey

Tri-County engineering students in Grade 11 showcased their cutting-edge design and prototyping skills at the Northeast Regional NASA HUNCH Critical Design Review at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, NJ recently.

HUNCH, which stands for High school students United with NASA to create Hardware, invites students from around the country to make things that NASA needs. The projects showcased at Critical Design Review are solutions to problems that astronauts and engineers at Johnson Space Center have identified but have not been able to solve.
A team of reviewers interviewed all the teams at our Regional Design Review and other design reviews held around the country. The teams with the best projects will be invited to showcase their work at a final design review in Houston, Texas.

This year’s projects include a floating octopus roomba-style cleaning robot, an AI system to diagnose cardiovascular health in space, a lunar bamboo greenhouse, and a system to remove and prevent toxic biofilm growth in space vehicle water systems.
This continues a long and storied association between TC and the NASA HUNCH program.

Student’s Love of Set Design Recognized

Sinead Bergeron ’24 a member of our graphics program, competed in the High School Excellence in Technical Theater Contest, hosted by the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild, this fall.

They took home first place out of 40 participants from across the state for their scenic design and set construction for Medway High School’s production of Clue.

They plan to pursue set design as career upon graduation.

Drug Abuse Prevention Program Held

TC was proud to partner with the SAFE Coalition, a Franklin, Mass.-based non-profit to deliver a program on the perils and impact of substance abuse and high school students.

The event was open to the entire school community.

The evening featured a trio of speakers (School Resource Officer Paul Guarino, School Adjustment Counselor Heidi Pontes and SAFE co-founder Jen Knight-Levine) as well as a display on a bedroom, showing participants common spots where drugs are hidden.
