The Bristol-Plymouth Student Ambassadors Team

Incoming first-year students at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School were welcomed last week by dozens of upperclassman ambassadors.

The group of 57 ambassadors, ranging from sophomores to seniors, spent an entire day with the incoming class of 2027, offering tours of the facility, leading icebreakers, and helping the first-year students get acclimated to a new school and — for many of them — a new community. The orientation event on Monday, Aug. 28, was the first of several major events the ambassadors will take an active role in supporting throughout the coming school year. During the event, the ambassadors spent time answering new students’ questions and recounting their own experiences acclimating to Bristol-Plymouth.

Student ambassadors also help guide incoming students through the smaller details of beginning high school, like where to find their lockers, how the lunch line works and what a typical day looks like.

On the first day of school this week, ambassadors were once again on hand in their standout red shirts helping to direct students and show their support.

“One of the most important things our ambassadors do is help to alleviate students’ anxiety, as many of them are coming to us from sending communities and don’t yet know many of their classmates,” Superintendent Alexandre Magalhaes said. “Spending time with the ambassadors and their new classmates helps students feel more acclimated and reinforces the idea that we’re a community, even if our students come from seven different communities.”

During orientation, ambassadors also walked students and families through the process of getting involved with the school community through clubs and organizations, as well as athletics.

In all, Bristol-Plymouth welcomed 357 new students as part of the class of 2027.
