MARLBOROUGH Superintendent Ernest F. Houle is pleased to share that students in Assabet’s carpentry program are working on community projects.

The community projects provide essential experience for students to perform real installations with an emphasis on development of industry skills and habits required to be successful in the workforce.

Students in the carpentry program, in collaboration with Assabet’s electrical wiring, plumbing, and painting design students, are working on a number of projects for the City of Marlborough.

Carpentry students are renovating a 40-foot by 50-foot Municipal Parks and Recreation equipment storage building, and plan to complete another renovation of a 35-foot by 35-foot storage building. Both projects require the removal and installation of new clapboard siding, architectural roofing shingles, and an ornate PVC exterior trim package.

The students also plan to renovate the interior of a 28-foot by 56-foot, single-story wood framed building for the Marlborough Public Facilities Department. Work will include installing interior framing, insulation, drywall and compound finish, interior doors, interior finish work and new flooring.

“Our students’ contribution to the public through practical community projects creates a sense of achievement,” said Superintendent Houle. “We pride ourselves at Assabet in creating curriculum that sets our students up for success and builds confidence in their skills.”
