Superintendent Jill Rossetti and Lead Criminal Justice Instructor Brendan Welch are pleased to announce that 12 Blue Hills Regional Technical High School seniors received their Next Generation 911 (NG9-1-1) Equipment Training Program Certification.

Seniors Jailene Soto, Armani Teran, Kylah Huggins, Elisa Lizarralde, Cecilia Rosado, Isabella Pio, Mikeyla Roman, Victoria Corley, James Fitch, Michael Finn, Abigail Bagtaz, and Maksimos Zotaj received certification upon their completion of the Next Generation 911 Equipment Training Program.

“Congratulations to all seniors in the Blue Hills Criminal Justice Program who received their Next Generation 911 Equipment Training Program Certification,” said Superintendent Rossetti. “These students have worked incredibly hard and participated in extensive training and I am very proud of their accomplishments.” Course completion allows students ages 18 or older to apply for employment in any 911 Dispatch Center in Massachusetts and also helps students gain internship and co-op opportunities during their time at Blue Hills.

The program, led by Instructor Kevin Lewis, was held on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 at the Massachusetts State 911 Department in Middleborough. Topics covered in the program included:

  • Overview of Massachusetts 9-1-1
  • Roadmap to Next Generation 9-1-1
  • Introduction to the NG9-1-1 Applications
  • Importance of Location
  • How to Handle Voice 9-1-1 Calls
  • TTY Call Handling and Silent Call Procedure
  • How to Handle Text-to-911
  • Special Considerations
  • Mapping Tools
  • NG9-1-1 Troubleshooting

Each year, Lead Criminal Justice Instructor Brendan Welch registers all eligible seniors to enroll in Next Generation 911 Equipment Training Program. Students must first receive certification from the prerequisite 40-hour Emergency Telecommunicator course. Students receive the 40-hour Emergency Telecommunicator course certification through the Blue Hills Criminal Justice Program following the completion of their junior year and must recertify every two years.

“I would like to thank both Director of Programs Monna Wallace and Programs Coordinator for State 911 Venus Wheeler for their continued efforts and coordination which allows our students to participate in essential training programs needed for employment,” said Instructor Welch.
