MAVA COLLEAGUES

At the request of our Executive Director, we are most pleased to share this Legacy Report from Maryanne Ham.

Steve feels strongly that the entire MAVA membership should know about all the good work done by Massachusetts Girls in Trades, the organization that Maryanne helped found and build.

Hi Frank, Steve, and Rick,

I would be grateful if you would share the attached Legacy Report with your membership through MAVA, MBTU, and the Massachusetts Apprenticeship Training Directors. These groups have been important partners in the work of MA Girls in Trades, and I would appreciate the opportunity for them to see the impact of what we have built together over the past 10.5 years.

Best,

Maryanne

Dear Current and Former Steering Committee and Advisory Board Members,

As I prepare to conclude my service with Massachusetts Girls in Trades on June 30, I wanted to share one final project with all of you, a Legacy Report documenting the first ten and a half years of our organization’s history.

As I reflected on our journey and compiled this report, I was reminded that Massachusetts Girls in Trades has always been about people—people willing to share their time, talents, expertise, and passion to create opportunities for others. The relationships built, the lives impacted, and the collective commitment to the mission are what made this organization successful.

What began in 2015 as a vision to expand opportunities for young women in the skilled trades grew into a statewide movement because of the collective efforts of dedicated educators, labor leaders, employers, workforce professionals, community partners, and students. Together, we built partnerships, created opportunities, developed leaders, and helped shape pathways into family-sustaining careers for thousands of young women across Massachusetts.

The attached report is my tribute to all of you. It captures the history, accomplishments, partnerships, and people who helped make Massachusetts Girls in Trades what it is today. While no report can fully reflect the countless hours, conversations, meetings, events, and relationships that built this organization, I hope it serves as a meaningful record of what we accomplished together.

I am incredibly proud of what we have built and grateful for the opportunity to have served alongside each of you. Although I am stepping away from my leadership role, I will always remain a champion of the mission and look forward to watching the next generation of leaders continue this important work.

Thank you for your friendship, partnership, and unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for young women in the skilled trades.

With gratitude,

Maryanne Ham
Co-Founder and Founding Chair
Massachusetts Girls in Trades

"We set out to answer three questions. Along the way, we built a community, created opportunities, developed leaders, and helped shape the future of the skilled trades. The foundation is strong, the leadership is emerging, and the future is bright."
