Gold, bronze and more: Keefe Tech students shine at SkillsUSA event
- Ten Keefe Regional Technical School students attended the SkillsUSA Nationals Skills and Leadership Conference in Atlanta.
- Six students competed in various categories, ranging from first aid/CPR to information technology.
- Kai Philip Gray, of Framingham, won a gold medal in the information technology category.
Ten students from Keefe Regional Technical School in Framingham recently attended the SkillsUSA Nationals Skills and Leadership Conference, from June 23-28 in Atlanta, according to a community announcement. SkillsUSA is a national organization focused on workforce development for students in skilled trades.
Four Keefe Tech students served as national voting delegates, representing Massachusetts: Mariana Santos, Hellen Da Silva and Caroline Carvalho, all from Framingham; and Samantha McDonald, of Holliston.
Six other students competed in various contests:
- Daniela Alvarez Ariana, of Framingham, participated in first aid/CPR;
- Cole Turner, of Natick, competed in criminal justice;
- Arielle Fisher, of Holliston, took part in computer programming;
- Luke Lavin, of Hopkinton, entered cabinet making;
- Brianna Horrigan, of Framingham, participated in basic health care;
- and Kai Philip Gray, of Framingham, competed in information technology.
Keefe Tech students engaged in contests and meetings throughout the six-day event, according to the announcement. They were accompanied by six staff members, including Jennifer Graham and Erin Roy (health careers); Patrick Colburn (criminal justice); Mark Hamilton (programming and web); Joseph Flynn, director of career and technical education; and Michael Dolan, director of special education.
During the awards ceremony on June 27, Turner placed fifth in the nation in his category. Horrigan and Fisher earned third place bronze medals, while Gray won a gold medal for first place in IT. Lavin and Alvarez Arana earned skill points certificates.
