Curious about the current state of #CareerTechEd and why technical programs are gaining traction as an alternative to four-year colleges?

MAVA Colleagues,

I had not seen this video on the Gloucester Biotechnology Center. I found it to be very interesting and well done. Again, shows the importance of skills training and that fact you do not need a college degree to be successful. Although it does not mention vocational technical education, it reinforces what we do.

It was brought to our attention by Dr. Heidi Riccio, Superintendent at Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School. We had participated, with our Executive Director, in a meeting with representatives of BioConnect New England & Northeastern University including Mike Tavilla, Jim Peyser, and Jared Auclair. The discussion centered around an initiative titled: “Centers of Excellence in Biotechnology: Advancing the Biotech Industry in Massachusetts through an Initiative for Inclusive Talent Development”.

The video showcases the Gloucester Biotechnology Center.

I am pleased to share some information from Heidi: “One of the students graduated from the Essex North Shore Biotechnology program and chose not to go onto college. She is a great student and graduated in the top 5% of the class. Of course, most would think she would go on to a four-year college, but she chose this option and it suited her. It is definitely a great testament to the choices we give our students in CTE.”

We hope your schedule allows you the opportunity to view this piece.

A thank you as well to our friend and colleague Peter Dewar who provided me with the social media guidance to allow me to complete this informative email.
