Colleagues,
As we have stated in the past, one of the wonderful qualities of Chapter 74 vocational technical & agricultural students and educators is their creative ways of using their skills to create items that have meaning and at the same time help others. Today we are pleased to share one from Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School in Charlton.
An “Eye Glass Receptacle” was designed and made by Bay Path vocational technical students in Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing, Drafting, Graphic Communications, and Mason & Tile Setting…….in honor of a Veteran.

Bay Path Vocational Programs Team Up to Honor Bob Wilby with Eyeglass Receptacle
Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School has undertaken a unique project to honor Bob Wilby, a United States Marine Veteran, dedicated Lions Club member and School Committee member who passed away this past Fall. Bob joined the Southern Worcester County Regional Vocational School District (Bay Path) Committee in 2005 when Paxton first joined the district. He was appointed on August 15, 2005 by the Select Board until the election in 2006. He was first elected in 2006 and served continuously on this Committee. He was elected 7 times to this committee. The first for a 2-year term and 3-year terms following. He served as Vice Chair 2009-2011.
To commemorate Wilby’s contributions, the school initiated a collaborative effort involving five of its technical programs to design, build, and display an eyeglass receptacle station. This project not only commemorates Wilby’s contributions as a Lion’s Club member, advisor and friend to Bay Path’s Leo Club and his role as a Bay Path School Committee member but also serves a practical purpose, providing a place for community members to donate used eyeglasses.
The receptacle is the result of teamwork among students and their instructors in the following programs: Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing, Drafting, Graphic Communications and Mason & Tile Setting reflecting the school’s commitment to career and technical education and service to the community. This initiative highlights the school’s commitment to blending hands-on learning with community service, demonstrating the students’ skills and the strong cooperative culture of the school’s programs. Bob Wilby’s legacy of community service is honored through this initiative, exemplifying the importance of giving back to the community.
The eyeglass receptacle was dedicated on May 23, 2024, during the Memorial Day Ceremony at Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School. This event also honored Bay Path Senior students, Marc Watroba (Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing) and Kyle Sylwanovicz (Automotive Technology) entering the Army National Guard and Marine Corp branches respectively and paid tribute to Bob Wilby. The receptacle is now permanently located near the entrance of the Bay Path Hilltop Restaurant.
