Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School cosmetology students recently participated in a kindness challenge.

CHARLTON — Superintendent-Director Kyle Brenner and Principal Clifford Cloutier are pleased to share that Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School cosmetology students recently participated in a kindness challenge.

Within the cosmetology industry, a large amount of success comes from employability skills, one of them being kindness. Each year, junior and senior students enrolled in the cosmetology vocational program are challenged to perform one or more acts of kindness each week. This year marks the fourth-year students have participated in the challenge. The kind acts were done for anyone including family members, co-workers, students, friends and even strangers.

After performing an act of kindness, students wrote their kindness act on a slip of colored paper and connected the papers together to form a “chain of kindness.” The chain was then displayed in the cosmetology classroom, serving as a reminder for students to continue their kind acts. The more acts completed, the longer the chain became.

The kind acts could be anything from making dinner for their family, doing laundry/chores without being asked, picking up trash, or something as simple as bringing flowers to someone who is sick.

“As a shop, we have found that this small activity has brought our students closer together,” said Cosmetology Instructional Aide McKenna Daniels.

On Thursday, June 15, cosmetology students, led by Sharon Fitzpatrick and McKenna Daniels as cooperative instructors, carried the chain to the football field to be measured by Principal Cloutier. Stretching across the length of the football field, the chain measured 120 yards, representing that a little kindness goes a long way.

“I want to acknowledge our cosmetology students for going above and beyond this year while participating in the annual kindness challenge,” said Principal Cloutier. “I was incredibly proud when I saw the chain stretch from one end of the football field to the other, representing so many kind acts.”
