A Recognition of Growth, Rigor, Engagement, and the Work Behind the Numbers

There are many ways to measure a school.

At Bay Path, we believe academic achievement is an important measure of student learning—but it is only one part of a well-rounded educational experience. At the heart of our work is a commitment to developing strong systems of learning, elevating rigor, engaging students deeply, and preparing every student for success beyond high school.

This year, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education named Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School a 2026 School of Recognition, recognizing the school for its progress toward state accountability targets. DESE identifies schools for this recognition based on progress across multiple accountability measures, including achievement and growth in English Language Arts and mathematics.

About the Data

As a school community, we are proud of this recognition, but perhaps even more proud of what it represents.

Bay Path’s 2026 accountability results demonstrate meaningful gains across multiple measures. Our overall progress toward accountability targets increased from 49% in 2025 to 60% in 2026, moving Bay Path into the state’s Substantial Progress Toward Targets category. Bay Path’s accountability percentile also increased to the 76th percentile among schools serving similar grades.

Our students demonstrated measurable academic growth in the following areas:

<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>English Language Arts achievement increased 3.4 points.

<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Mathematics achievement increased 3.8 points.

<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>English Language Arts growth exceeded typical growth.

<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Mathematics growth exceeded typical growth.

<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Four-year graduation reached 98.9%.

<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>The annual dropout rate was 0%.

<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Chronic absenteeism decreased from 11.1% to 10.2%.

These numbers matter. They represent real progress for our students, our school, and our continued journey forward.

But the numbers are not the whole story.

The story is how we got there.

Over the past several years, Bay Path has been intentional about building strong systems of learning. We have continued to elevate academic rigor, strengthen curriculum and instruction, increase opportunities for students to engage deeply in their learning, and create greater alignment between our academic and vocational programs through the state frameworks.

A significant part of this work has been our continued focus on developing meaningful units of study that embed overlapping skills, establish common expectations for learning, and create a shared understanding of the Bay Path student learning model. This work is helping us create greater access, consistency, and equity for all students while maintaining the high expectations that define a Bay Path education.

We are asking more of our students—and we are working to provide the support, structure, relationships, and opportunities necessary for them to meet those expectations.

That work happens every day in classrooms, laboratories, shops, hallways, offices, and throughout our school community.

It happens when a teacher looks at student work and asks, how can we make this better?

It happens when a CTE instructor raises the level of technical expectations because students are preparing for the demands of a real industry.

It happens when an academic teacher increases the rigor of a task while providing students with the support necessary to access it.

It happens when educators collaborate around student needs, when students take ownership of their learning, and when adults across our building refuse to settle for what was good enough yesterday.

That is what this recognition means to us.

It is evidence that the systems we are building are making a difference.

It is evidence that rigor and support can coexist.

It is evidence that student engagement matters.

And it is evidence that when an entire school community commits to moving learning forward, meaningful growth follows.

Most importantly, this recognition belongs to our students and staff.

To our teachers and professional staff in the classrooms: thank you for the countless hours spent planning, collaborating, reviewing curriculum, assessing, adjusting, supporting, challenging, encouraging, and believing in our students. The gains reflected in these results are connected to your daily commitment to teaching and learning.

To our students: thank you for showing up, understanding the why behind testing, taking on challenges, engaging in your classrooms and shops, and continuing to grow. These results belong to you as much as anyone.

To our administrators and support staff: thank you for helping create the systems and conditions that allow our students and staff to succeed.

To our Facilities Department, cafeteria staff, bus drivers, families, and community partners: thank you for the countless ways you contribute to making Bay Path a place where students can learn, grow, and succeed each day.

At Bay Path, we will celebrate this recognition—but we will not stop here.

We will continue to meet the needs of every student who walks through our doors because that is what great schools do differently. We will continue to examine our practices, strengthen our systems, elevate expectations, and find new ways to help every student grow and succeed.

Recognition is not the destination. Continued growth is.

Our work continues to build stronger systems of learning, elevate rigor, deepen student engagement, and ensure that every student has the opportunity to write their own success story.

This is what it means to Continue to Strive for Excellence.

Congratulations, #BPFamily!

To our staff, students, Facilities Department, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, families, community partners, and everyone who contributes to the Bay Path experience—thank you for continuing to move learning forward and for doing your part to make a difference in the lives of every student in our building.

It takes a village. And this is our village.

Keep Elevating, Bay Path!

Sincerely,

Dean W. Packard – Principal
