Mayor Jon Mitchell Visits Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech to Tour Chapter 74 Vocational Technical Education Programs

On Friday, March 21st, Mayor Jon Mitchell visited Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School (GNBVT) to tour several of the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and witness firsthand the hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for future careers. Mayor Mitchell met with Superintendent-Director Michael Watson and Executive Director of Operations and Technology Maciel Pais, who led him on the tour of the campus.

Mayor Mitchell toured the Automotive Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Metal Fabrication & Joining Technologies, Electrical, and Dental Assisting programs. He also viewed the ongoing construction of a mock building project located outside the plumbing shop, led by New Bedford Public Schools’ After Dark Carpentry and Plumbing students.

Throughout the visit, students and faculty engaged enthusiastically with Mayor Mitchell, showcasing their work and highlighting the skills they are developing. The pride and professionalism displayed by the students were evident across each program.

“We were proud to showcase the incredible work happening within our vocational programs,” said Superintendent Watson. “The Mayor’s visit reinforces the importance of investing in vocational-technical education and the students who represent the future of our local workforce.”

GNBVT is grateful for Mayor Mitchell’s continued support and looks forward to welcoming him back for future visits.
