FITCHBURG — Scores of people came out for the 44th annual Fitchburg East Rotary Club brunch fundraiser held over the weekend.
The well-attended, popular affair held at Montachusett Regional Vocational High School typically takes place on Super Bowl Sunday but was rescheduled to March 16 due to inclement weather. Organizers pivoted to a St. Patrick’s Day theme and over 600 attendees enjoyed a delicious spread that included pancakes and French toast, scrambled eggs and an omelet station, other hot foods, juices and coffee, and an ice cream bar.
Fitchburg High School students collected tickets, greeted people at the door, and helped serve the food and clear tables and such along with Monty Tech students and Rotarians and other volunteers, and two assistant chefs from Monty Tech and Rotarians cooked the food.
People had the opportunity to bid on silent auction items and purchase raffle tickets for a 50/50 raffle and the chance to win one of many themed baskets. The woman who won the 50/50 raffle generously donated her $600 winnings back to the club, which Fitchburg East Rotary President Bob Campbell said was “very generous!”
He went on to say that they are grateful to the numerous adult and student volunteers who helped make the fundraiser a success once again and thanked the club members along with all the local businesses and organizations who were sponsors and donated silent auction items.
Rotary members are in the process of tallying ticket sales and gathering promised funds, with the money raised going towards scholarships for local students, donations to area nonprofit organizations, and local and international humanitarian projects. What they do know now though is that they are incredibly grateful for the support from the community year after year for their biggest fundraiser that enables them to give back.
“It was excellent an excellent brunch,” Campbell said. “It was great to see all the community come out and support our great cause and it’s nice to know many folks really do care about the needs of the people in our community.”
