Grade 11 Graphic Design student Jake Aumock won the City of Taunton Lights On Festival logo contest with his snow globe-inspired design.

TAUNTON — Superintendent-Director Alexandre Magalhaes is pleased to share that a Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School student won the City of Taunton Lights On Festival Logo Contest this week. His design will be the official 2024 logo for the festival in Taunton.

Jake Aumock, an 11th-grade student in Bristol-Plymouth’s Graphic Design technical program, submitted the sketch in May, and his design was selected this week. While the City of Taunton hired designers to create logos in past years, the Lights On Festival Committee decided to invite Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical High School and Taunton High School students to submit their ideas.

Aumock referenced this season’s theme, “Winter Wonderland in the Silver City,” in his design, which features a wintry village inside a snow globe.

“I was able to design whatever I wanted, as long as it was based on the various criteria provided by the Taunton Lights Festival, such as silver bells and the colors blue, red, and silver,” Aumock said. “I consistently asked my teachers for critiques, new ideas, and concepts. There were hundreds of concepts and ideas spread all over the artboard, giving me plenty of ideas to use and elaborate upon.”

After his design was chosen, he worked with the festival committee over the summer to finalize the logo according to their specifications.

In addition to having his work selected as the official logo of the 2024 Lights On Festival, Aumock also received a cash prize.

“I am amazed by Jake’s remarkable professionalism in his collaboration with the committee to create an end result,” said Superintendent-Director Magalhaes. “This is a perfect project to feature on a resume in the years to come, and I have no doubt that he is set up for success by our incredible Graphic Design educators. Our design students have been mentored by some of the best in the industry, and I commend all of our applicants for their hard work.”
