MAVA Colleagues,

It does not seem possible, but our first MAVA General Membership Meeting & Dinner of the year is just under 2 months away!!

Wednesday, October 24th is the date with the Board of Directors’ Meeting at 1:30 pm, and the General Membership Meeting at 3:30 pm in Marlborough at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel. Hoping you are assembling your team of administrators so that you can register early!

Some of the highlights of our General Membership Meeting

Presentation of the first annual Charles H. “Charlie” Lyons Award.

This award was established by the MAVA Board of Directors to honor the memory of Mr. Lyons and to recognize a legislator or leader for tireless advocacy for vocational technical education in Massachusetts and for commitment to its continued advancement and improvement. Presenter: James Brosnan, Superintendent, McCann Technical High School, North Adams, MA. Recipient: Katherine Craven, Chair, Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Results of Survey of MAVA Schools and their Interest in a Proposed Targeted Grant Program to Add Chapter 74 Seats in Massachusetts. Presenters: MAVA Vice President Aaron Polansky and Executive Director Steven C. Sharek.

“Building a Diverse Regional Vocational Technical High School that Reflects Your District … at the Same Time Maintaining Good Relations with Your Member Communities”:Presentation led by Holly McClanan, Superintendent, Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, and Dr. Elvio Ferreira, Director of CTE, Brockton PS.

The Career Technical Initiative (CTI): What is it? Could It Work at My School? Should I Give it a Try?”: Presentation by Patricia “Trish” Woodliff, CTI Consultant, Commonwealth Corporation. This session is designed specifically for administrators with limited or no knowledge of CTI and for those schools that are not a current recipient of CTI funding.

We have also scheduled time for nearly all our Administrative Groups to meet.
