Telegram & Gazette

Worcester Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik, whose standing in the world of gymnastics (and social media) has skyrocketed in the past two weeks, received a hero’s welcome when he returned to the United States from Paris.

A crowd gathered in the terminal of Sarasota Bradenton International Airport in Florida Tuesday evening, with fans of all ages greeting Nedoroscik with cheers and signs. The smiling and bespectacled pommel horse whiz exchanged high-fives as he made his way through the terminal.

Nedoroscik, who grew up in Worcester and graduated from Worcester Technical High School in 2016, is based in Florida, training at EVO Gymnastics in Sarasota.

Nedoroscik captured two bronze medals in the men’s gymnastics competition in France. He helped the United States win the bronze in the team competition and later won an individual bronze in the pommel horse event.

His clutch performance in the team competition sealed a medal for the U.S. and made Nedoroscik a favorite among Olympic fans and athletes. He was ever present on social media, his climb to the top a point of pride at Sterling Academy of Gymnastics, where he learned the sport.

At the Goddard branch of the Worcester Public Library, Nedoroscik is being celebrated with a display of children’s sports books, accompanied by photos of the local Olympian.
