We are always excited to share the accomplishments of our Chapter 74 vocational technical & agricultural students. Today we are pleased to share information about an Upper Cape Tech student Ronan Gleason, the 2024 recipient of the WALTER J. MARKHAM AWARD.

He is the first in UCT history to be awarded the Walter J. Markham Award.

The first in UCT history to be a Recipient

Ronan Gleason, of Sandwich, is an Engineering student heading off to Northeastern University next year. the Walter J. Markham Award is one of the most prestigious award given to a graduating senior. Only one student from the entire Commonwealth is recognized each year! Ronan was the 2024 recipient in recognition of his excellence and achievement in vocational technical education.

He is the first in UCT history to be awarded the Walter J. Markham Award. This prestigious award is given to one student each year in recognition of their excellence and achievement in vocational education.

The Walter J. Markham Award is presented in honor of Walter J. Markham, who brought growth and improvement to the state vocational/technical system as the Director of the Bureau for Vocational Education and then as the first Associate Commissioner for Occupational Education. The annual winner receives a $500 cash award to be used toward college tuition or for the purchase of trade-related tools or equipment. Each vocational and technical high school in Massachusetts submits one nominee and a winner is selected by a special award committee.
