Chapter 74 students utilizing the skills they have obtained to build much needed affordable housing

Colleagues,

We are always excited to share activities that have proven successful in one or more of our MAVA schools. Work has begun to replace a deteriorated building with a new, permanently affordable family home. Chapter 74 students utilizing the skills they have obtained to build much needed affordable housing.

Today we are pleased to share a very successful and exciting collaborative effort in a building project with students from the construction trades at Southeastern Regional joining forces with South Shore Habitat.

You will find more information below, some photos, and a link to a video produced a Southeastern student! We appreciate Christina Guarini, Executive Director of Access and Engagement at Southeastern Regional for sharing this effort with us.

Town of Easton

The community was excited to be a part of a recent ribbon cutting event at 26 Poquanticut Ave. to celebrate the start of work to replace the deteriorated building with a new, a permanently affordable family home.

The town officials were thankful for the work of South Shore Habitat and Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School in making this project a reality as the town works toward the goal of providing a variety of housing opportunities in Easton.

In attendance at the event were Town staff, elected/appointed officials, South Shore Habitat for Humanity, and staff/students from Southeastern Regional Voc. Tech. High School.

In 2020, Easton’s Affordable Housing Trust used Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds to acquire 26 Poquanticut Ave. and 10 Morse Rd. and issued a request-for-proposal for a non-profit to develop family housing at each property. South Shore Habitat for Humanity is developing one unit at 26 Poquanticut and a two-family at 10 Morse. Easton’s CPA investments will help create three units of much-needed affordable family housing in their community.
