Book Summary

The primary focus of this historical work is on the foundational principles, people, places, and events in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts vocational education system. The establishment and growth of vocational schools in Massachusetts is a result of many forces acting over a long period of time. History has shown that a successful form of practical education and training is always subject to economic conditions and societal trends. History has also shown that it will repeat itself and the societal popularity of vocational technical education will ebb and flow. Social and economic changes impacted by events and people have resulted in a remarkable story of persistence and success in the establishment of the most significant change in education that has sustained the test of time.
