Congratulations to Southeastern Voc-Tech guidance counselor Gwen Nauls who was recently recognized by the Brockton Area Branch NAACP. She was selected by the WIN Committee which recognizes great women who make a significant impact in the Brockton community.

Honored by Brockton Area Branch NAACP

Southeastern Regional guidance counselor Gwen Nauls was recognized by the Women in NAACP (WIN) Committee with the Brockton Area Branch NAACP during its 2nd Annual Phenomenal Women Brunch on March 19th.
Southeastern Regional guidance counselor Gwen Nauls was recently recognized by the Women in the NAACP (WIN) Committee with the Brockton Area Branch NAACP.
Nauls was recognized during the 2nd Annual Phenomenal Women Brunch on March 19 at the Perfect Place in Brockton. The brunch was hosted by the WIN Committee to recognize great women who make a significant impact in the Brockton community.
The WIN Committee was started to connect, advance, celebrate and support women. WIN seeks to enhance the leadership role of women, serve as an advocacy vehicle for issues affecting women and children, and advocate for the positive development of children.
WIN noted Nauls’ dedication to her community and desire to uplift others as reasons for her selection.
“Ms. Nauls has been a fierce advocate in the Brockton community and for our students,” said Principal Leslie Weckesser. “It is fitting that she earns this honor celebrating women leaders during the month of March. With 52% of our student body being female, it is wonderful that they can see firsthand what doors hard work, dedication and passion can open with a role model like Ms. Nauls.”
In honor of this recognition, Nauls also received citations from the Massachusetts House and Senate, Brockton Mayor’s Office, Brockton City Council, and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition signed by Rep. Stephen Lynch.
Nauls has been a resident of Brockton for over 50 years and is a graduate of Brockton High School. She later attended UMass Boston, receiving a bachelor’s degree in human resource management, and Cambridge College, receiving a Master’s in Education.
Prior to working at Southeastern, Nauls worked for The Educational Resource Institute and Massasoit Community College. She has also worked part-time at the Stoughton Old Colony YMCA for 10 years.
Nauls has a longstanding passion for education, social justice, and Black History. She notes that one of her favorite quotes, and what she stands to live by, is the Martin Luther King, Jr. quote: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
Nauls is a co-founder of Harambee Learning and Cultural Center in Brockton which offers programming on Black History Education, Engaging Podcast, a Community Wide Kwanzaa, and Juneteenth Celebration.
Nauls is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and serves as the Chaplain, and a member of New Life Christian Community Church where she co-leads the SAFE Security Team and is a Voice of Hospitality representative.
“Ms. Nauls is a champion for our students and is dedicated to helping them thrive,” Superintendent Holly McClanan said. “She is incredibly deserving of this honor, and we are so pleased to see her recognized within the community.”
