State of the Union Highlights CTE Interests

Tuesday’s State of the Union address by President Biden highlighted several initiatives relevant to career and technical education (CTE), including the necessity of recruiting and retaining workers to fill many of the jobs created by legislation, such as the CHIPS and Science Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the importance of increasing teacher salaries. Ask Your Representative to Co-sponsor the 2023 House CTE Month Resolution!

The co-chairs of the House CTE Caucus, Reps. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) and Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) are leading the House’s annual CTE Month® resolution. These House members are currently circulating a “Dear Colleague” letter asking their colleagues to co-sponsor the resolution marking February as CTE Month, which is set to be introduced on Feb. 8. ACTE celebrated its largest gathering of CTE stakeholders in more than two decades. CareerTech VISION 2022 took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, and we’re already looking forward to VISION 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona, this fall. We are so grateful for each of you who choose to share your time with us. This event and this organization wouldn’t be possible without you.

ACTE’s CareerTech VISION is the premier annual gathering of CTE professionals, happening Nov. 29–Dec. 2 in Phoenix, Arizona. We are seeking session proposals that address the full range of issues facing CTE educators, administrators and key stakeholders as they strive to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to succeed! The deadline to submit session proposals is March 3.

Best Practices and Innovations in CTE Conference, co-hosted by the NCLA and the Administration Division of ACTE, is specifically focused on the professional development for administrators of both secondary and postsecondary CTE programs and institutions. The conference happens Sept. 27–29 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the deadline to submit presentation proposals is March 13.

Join the CTE Research Network for a free webinar, Feb. 21 at 3:00 p.m. ET, on their new Equity Framework for CTE Research. Members of the Equity in CTE Workgroup will introduce the framework and provide a high-level overview and examples of the six research stages covered. The webinar will also describe the related checklist and thematic overview for the framework.

CareerPrepped has enhanced its comprehensive toolkit, now available to the general public. CTE institutions can adopt the platform to document and track students’ skill acquisition, while helping them connect with career opportunities.
